February, 2018 is an exciting time for LBC, we have been working for over two years training a group of men we will be affirming as our 'First Elder Team.' Please join with us in praying for each of these men. Check back soon for names, photos, and bio's. The responsibilities of the Elders are as follows:

1. To serve with the Pastor-Teacher in the oversight of the spiritual ministry of the church.

2. Establish an ongoing Elder & ministry training program to develop future leaders of the church.

3. To approve Members for acceptance into ministry.

4. To oversee the care and keeping of the list of Members.

5. To oversee the process of church discipline.

6. To approve candidates for baptism.

7. To record decisions made by the Board of Elders.

8. To pray for those individuals who request prayer for healing in accordance with the pattern established in James chapter five.

9. To encourage the church Members, particularly those with special needs or concerns.

10. To provide a source of accountability for the Pastor and the Board of Directors.

The Board of Elders shall assist the pastor to:

a. feed the flock (1 Tim. 3:2; 5:17: 1 Thess. 5:12; Titus 1:9),

b. provide leadership to the flock (Acts 20:28; 1 Thess. 5:12; Heb. 13:1-7), in practical matters (Acts 6:1-6; 11:29-30), in matters of doctrine (Acts 15; 16:4), and in matters of discipline and character (Heb. 13:17);

c. lovingly care for the flock. (James 5:14-15; Acts 20:35: Heb. 13:17); and,

d. protect the flock (1 Pet. 5:2-3; Acts 20:28).

In summary, the Board of Elders assists the Pastor to shepherd the flock of God (1 Pet. 5:1-5). It is recognized by Lahaina Baptist Church and the Board of Elders that there is only one Lord and Master in God’s Church: the Lord Jesus Christ. All others are His servants. (Philippians 2:5-11)

The Deacon Team of Lahaina Baptist Church are servants of Jesus Christ.  Through planning, service, and administration they support the Congregation and its Mission Statement.  These practical duties help the Elders’ ability to minister, as exemplified in Acts 6.  Deacons do not act in spiritual leadership over the church, but in an operational capacity.  Deacons aspire to the qualifications described in 1 Timothy 3:8-10.
